Inspired by Nature

The romance of shells in nature and art surrounds us.

The allure of the oyster and the natural beauty of Maine’s rugged coast inspire each unique shell.

Our Shells

Our oyster shells are sustainably sourced from hardworking Maine oyster farmers, while supporting Maine aquaculture.  Each fresh oyster is hand selected for consistency in shell size, shape, weight, thickness, color and feel. The oysters are hand shucked and the delicious meat preserved.

The shells endure a rigorous sanitizing process over several days, then fresh air dried.

The back sides of the shells are generously brushed with a non-toxic acrylic clear coat gloss to highlight and showcase the natural beauty, color and layers of each unique shell while leaving a subtle shiny finish.

Each shell is then delicately decoupaged with the finest images, hand gilded with a classic gold leaf, and finished with a final coat of clear gloss.

Add unique coastal chic to any seaside setting or simply as a memory keepsake.

Fun Facts

Maine’s rich history of oysters is evident in oyster shell middens still seen on a coastal riverbank in Damariscotta. With a depth of 30 feet and length of 1650 feet, these middens were formed over a 1000 year span between 200 BC to 1000 AD where indiginous people feasted on them in great numbers.

Today Maine oysters are ranked as some of the best in the world. Known as the “Napa Valley for oysters” the Damariscotta River estuary is home to several world class oyster farms.
